Portability is a big factor when you are choosing a display.

  • Will you be driving to your event(s) or flying?
  • If driving, should your display fit in your car?
  • If flying, do you want to take your display as checked baggage?
  • Could you ship it by FedEx or UPS (or some other carrier)?
  • Could you personally move it from a car or taxi to "Aisle 21" of the exhibit hall?

PopUp displays are so popular largely because they are so portable.
They generally pack into one or two rollable shipping cases that can be
converted into a display podium during the tradeshow.

The oval shipping case (one type is pictured above) holds a complete 10 ft wide popup display system, and easily converts to a display podium.

One square case (one type is pictured at right) holds a complete popup tabletop display system. Two cases like this are needed to pack a complete 10 ft wide popup system, but the two cases together also convert into a single display podium.

There are two huge advantages to cases that convert into podiums.

First:
You get a free podium -- it comes with your display system.

Second:
The shipping case does not have to be stored by you or the trade show management - which means you don't have to wait to get it back when the show is over. You can pack up your display system and start home that much sooner.

Not all cases are created equal.

The black rounded case, (as pictured to the left) is the most compact we know of for transporting a tabletop popup.

It does not convert into a podium, but it is the easiest case to "take along".

Flat-panel displays ( fabric covered and folding frame) do not pack into cylindrical cases. The rectangular design needs a rectangular container.

Carry bags (one type pictured at right) often come with table top folding panel display systems, but the larger -- and heavier -- systems in these bags can be cumbersome.

The carry bags are convenient for the lighter tabletop systems, but they are not enough protection for shipping or airline handlers.

Flat panel displays pack into rectangular cases. (One type is pictured
at left.)

Most cases for partable freestanding displays have wheels and can
be pushed or pulled. Typically they just fit within UPS size limits and weigh about 50 to 80 lbs when loaded.

However, rectangular cases do not convert to podiums. This means you will have to store them away from the booth during the show.

Custom built displays generally ship in custom built plywood crates.

Truss displays and "custom modular" displays (consisting of the standard components) often ship in larger cases that can't (can not) be rolled into an elevator or moved by individuals.

Note that the bottom of the case pictured at the right is designed to accommodate a forklift. These cases ship by motor freight -- not UPS or FedEx.
